Arbor Day, 2016 was a fun excuse for Oseco Employees to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. Oseco's employee-lead Company Garden Committee organized a small initiative in celebration of Arbor Day, where they gathered some volunteers outside on the Oseco grounds and planted six small tree seedlings.
The employee-lead group spun off of Oseco's Wellness Committee in 2015 with physical activity and garden-fresh nutrition in mind. "We welcome all levels of gardening expertise in the group," said organizer Eric Goodyear, "It gives us all the chance to teach each other about what we've learned in our own gardens at home, and gives us a sense of community at work. We're also getting smarter as we go and learning new tricks and techniques to make maintenance easy. Our goal is to produce enough to cook for the entire company on occasion, and even donate some to the local community."
Learning as they go, the group has begun to incorporate perennial plants, now in their second growing season, for returning crops in future years. The team volunteers together in the garden about once each month and use opportunities like Arbor Day to keep the rest of Oseco involved, informed, and excited about their progress.
